The Value and Need for "Being" as Well as Doing in Life and Work

As one considers career options, the question is often, "What am I going to do with the rest of my life?" While this 'doing' focus is important, it might be also be worthwhile to think about "Who am I going to 'be' in my life?" This broader question allows us to consider personal attributes, ethical actions, and social responsibility. Who are we really? What brings joy into our lives? Dr. Norm Amundson is Professor, University of British Columbia and past editor, NECA Journal of Employment Counseling.

The purposes of the Association are: To increase the effectiveness of the career development and placement activities by fostering an exchange of ideas and information among individuals responsible for said activities; To encourage a professional approach to career development and placement. Workshops, conferences, study and research, and publications will be used on a continuing basis; To pursue the development and furtherance of standards and ethical procedures in career development and placement; To aid in providing the means of a continuous evaluative procedure for maintaining a high standard of career development and placement; To assist in obtaining the support of administrative and executive personnel in education, business, industry, and government for the furtherance of the maximum career development of all persons.
